In Memoriam
R. Wayne Estopinal, 1955 - 2018

Wayne founded TEG Architects in 1989 as The Estopinal Group. Through his practice, Wayne developed a planning and design strategy centric upon collaboration with clinicians, physicians, patients, leadership teams and communities creating impactful health care facilities. He was a visionary, an innovator and capable of extraordinary architecture resulting from his incredibly hard work ethic and uncompromising attention to client satisfaction.  As a tireless champion for quality,  he instilled in our staff a passion for excellence in all we produce.

Wayne held extensive knowledge of health care delivery systems, technology, planning issues and an operationally oriented philosophy.  This knowledge provided the comprehensive background necessary to evaluate complex facility opportunities and provide exceptional solutions.  Wayne diligently mentored his partners and staff to ensure this knowledge and the same superior quality of work our clients expect would be carried forward.

Efficient Design+Productive Care … a collaborative clinical and design strategy
His early career at Humana and VHA Health Facilities Group started his interest in using data and collaboration to improve care delivery via efficiency, productivity and collaboration with clinicians to re-engineer care delivery with excellent outcomes. To date, Wayne has documented this strategy in seven EFFICIENT DESIGN + PRODUCTIVE CARE (ED+PC) volumes, helping thousands of clinicians visualize how design can significantly improve every clinical process — demonstrating the value and importance of quality health care design practices across the country.

In 2018, the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) had elevated Wayne to fellowship status. Fellowship is granted to ACHA Board certified architects specializing in health care who have shown distinction in fulfilling an area of expertise as determined by the College’s Council of Fellows. The Council of Fellows was founded to advance the profession of health care architecture. ACHA requires its certificants to work towards the improvement of health care architecture on behalf of the public, to practice in an ethical manner to maintain the highest standards in the specialized field of health care architecture.

Passion for Mentorship and Health Care Architectural Education
Wayne was an active Ball State University alumnus (Class of '79) and served the university, via his positions on the Ball State University Board of Trustees, BSU Alumni Council and BSU Foundation. During his 40+ years of involvement as a highly engaged alumni leader, Wayne employed more than 140 architectural student interns, immersing each in all aspects of health care planning and design at TEG. Wayne’s impact on the profession is through interns expanded our health care design community with capable and qualified professionals.

Local Involvement
Wayne always had a passion for improving the quality of life in his hometown. Some of his most notable projects surrounding TEG's headquarters include Big Four Station Park, Jeffersonville City Hall Renovation, Jeffersonville Police Headquarters, and the YMCA of New Albany.  He was active with the Louisville Sports Commission Board of Directors; Louisville Zoo Foundation Board of Directors; and Lincoln Heritage Council Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors.

Estopinal was also an avid soccer fan and very involved in the soccer community. He was the founder of Louisville City FC and was a minority owner of Orlando City Soccer Club. Wayne was also the owner of the Louisville Lightning professional soccer team of the PASL, Chicago Fire Juniors Kentucky Board of Directors, and Owner of Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club in Louisville.

While Wayne will be sorely missed, he diligently mentored his partners so that his succession plan for TEG would ensure the same superior quality of work that TEG clients have received and have come to expect. We want to assure you we will continue to provide our services that meet the same lofty standards, uncompromising commitment, effort and quality that Wayne expected and that you deserve. Put simply, the TEG team is committed to devoting its time, knowledge, and experience to make your project exactly what you envisioned when you selected us.
